You may be wondering why you would want to choose the G-Box Q or G-Box MX2 over some of the other boxes out there that can play XBMC or Kodi. What makes this device the best android box of XBMC over the competition? One word: Development. Since Kodi/XBMC is an open source program, we have been developing and tailoring both Kodi/XBMC and our firmware specifically to our G-Box line. Many other Android set-top boxes will pale in comparison to the amount of development we have put into integrating this awesome media player with the G-Box.
Over the past years, we have fixed up Kodi/XBMC to increase the throughput on streaming for faster downloads so that you can get to your content faster. We’ve also adopted Kodi/XBMC to work specifically with our Amlogic boxes, so you can be sure there are no compatibility issues and you’ll be taking advantage of hardware decoding instead of slower software decoding. Hardware decoding is the best codec for any file type, especially the more “bleeding edge” formats. Most Android Kodi/XBMC set-top boxes do not take advantage of real hardware decoding and instead rely on the software decoding which is less efficient and not capable of high definition formats without stuttering. This can cause erratic behavior for the heavier codec types not to mention increase the device’s power usage along with temperature creating an overall inefficient experience.
Our set top box for Kodi/XBMC is also a part of the Google Play Store! This means seamless updates on your G-Box with no interaction from you. This allows us to keep our Media Center on the latest updates, no matter what firmware you are using. The G-Box MX2 and the G-Box Q will both get updates whenever we push them to the Google Play Store, saving you time and effort.
Past and Future Development
The G-Box line is always under constant development so that we here at Matricom can bring you the latest updates, whether those are changes to the box itself or cleaning up some miscellaneous bugs. Kodi/XBMC is no exception, and we have been tirelessly working to optimize our version of Kodi/XBMC (now called Media Center). Codecs, such as H.264 and MPEG-2/4, are some of the major codecs that we support on our G-Boxes. However, we have gone the extra mile to enable codec playback for codecs that aren’t widely used as much, such as H.263. So you can be sure that no matter what codecs come out, the old ones will always work. We are always working on the new codecs as well. With the advent of H.265, we have begun working on developing libraries to interface the H.265 with Kodi/XBMC. H.265, which will be the codec that brings about 4K support inside of Kodi. Rest assured that Matricom is going to bring this technology to you first with the G-Box Q.
