Choosing which Android G-Box TV box is best for XBMC or Kodi

Android has come a long way in the form of TV set-top boxes. Matricom currently has two such device varieties running Android to select from, so which one do you choose? Well, this all depends on a few factors: Which XBMC package you prefer to run (XBMC or Kodi), how much storage space and RAM you need, how much you want to spend and the highest video output resolution. It’s also good to point out that one of the two devices is twice as fast as the other… But we’ll get into that a little later.

The G-Box MX2 is our older TV box which was designed specifically for XBMC. While the MX2 is capable of 1080p resolution, it is limited to outputs up to 720p in XBMC. For more people this is not a problem, however if you’re counting pixels on your screen and absolutely demand higher resoltuions, the G-Box Q pushes 1080p natively through XBMC and Kodi without any issues. The MX2 is also dual-core, which gives it plenty of processing power for most anything Android related, however suffest a bit when it comes to gaming. The MX2 features 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, which is plenty for most people and certainly enough to use it as a streaming device through XBMC.

The G-Box Q is our latest Android streamer which has been designed with Kodi and ease-of-use in mind. If Kodi is what you’re after, then this box is for you! Featuring 2GB of RAM, 16GB total storage and a quad core processor, the Q is not only double in speed, but it’s also double in space and capability. This also comes with a reasonable price different from the MX2 (Current pricing can be found on the different product pages). The Q is also being developed with new features, such as HyperStream Technology, which promises faster media streaming and less buffering. Furthermore the Q has totally revamped UI and is currently receiving another UI facelift soon through an OTA update. The Q, capable of 4K resolutions and 3D gaming, is quite impressive and is the more capable box of the two, and with it’s high specs, is also the most powerful Android box on the consumer market.
