How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days
This Rom-com features Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin, an advertising executive and ladies’ man, who bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. They then introduce Kate Hudson as Andie who covers the “How To” beat for “Composure” magazine and is assigned to write an article on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days.” They meet in a bar shortly after the bet is made and the game is on.
Bridget Jones Diary
Bridget, a post-feminist, thirty-something British woman who has a tendency to binge drink, smoke, and difficulties controlling her weight. While trying to improve herself on these issues, she also has to deal with her publishing job. She visits her parents for a Christmas party and they try to set her up with the visiting son of one of their neighbors. Instead, she falls for her boss Daniel who begins to send her suggestive e-mails that soon lead to a dinner date proposition.
The Notebook
This classic is based on Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel. The story focuses on Noah Calhoun’s regular visits to a female in a nursing home. Calhoun frequently reads to her from an old, faded notebook containing the touching story of a young couple whose love affair was tragically halted after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited and found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance, despite the time separated.
Just Married
Can a new marriage can survive meddling friends, disapproving families, and a honeymoon where everything that can go wrong does? Tom Leezak likes sports and beer and tries to make ends meet working as a nighttime radio traffic reporter. In comparison, Sarah McNerney is a beautiful young woman from a wealthy and privileged family who is trying to become a successful writer. Tom and Sarah have nothing in common, but that doesn’t stop them from falling in love. Sarah’s family doesn’t care for Tom’s boorish ways and Tom’s friends think Sarah is too highbrow for him. They decide to get married and head off to Italy for a month-long honeymoon despite the pleas of those closest to them. Shortly after, they face numerous obstacles that may be the end of their relationship.
Romeo + Juliet
The classic story of Romeo and Juliet, set in a modern-day city of Verona Beach. The Montagues and Capulets are two feuding families, whose children meet and fall in love. They have to hide their love from the world because they know that their parents will not allow them to be together. There are obstacles on the way, like Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, and Romeo’s friend Mercutio, and many fights. But although it is set in modern times, it is still the same timeless story of the “star crossed lovers”.
500 Days of Summer
Recount the days with Tom and Summer to the sounds of sad British pop songs as he falls in and out of love. Tom and Summer work together at a greeting card company in Los Angeles. Tom believes in love, but summer doesn’t until they share that special kiss. Watch Tom and Summer’s relationship unfold over the course of 500 days. Don’t worry, there’s a silver lining to everything even when things look a little dark.
Say Anything
Everybody knows the iconic boombox over the head scene starring John Cusack, as Lloyd, trying to win back Diane Court (Lone Skye). Say Anything is a classic rom-com that shows your typical student underachiever, Lloyd Dobler, going after the high school valedictorian Diane Court after graduating. Diane’s father encourages her to split up with Lloyd. She eventually does and no Lloyd is saddened, yet determined to win her back. Watch their story unfold in what is considered the greatest modern movie romance.
Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
Ever break up with someone so bad that you want to erase them from your memory? Maybe that’s a little too far, but not for Joel and Clementine. Watch a surreal romantic comedy starring Jim Carrey as Joel and Kate Winslet as Clementine, rekindle their relationship as they try to remember it. Every detail of the film matters so pay attention because they’re a ton of twists in the film (keep an eye on Clementine’s hair).
